Northern Bioscience provides environmental and other services to First Nations, Métis, and other indigenous communities to help them meet resource and development objectives.


Our services include:

  • wetland inventory, habitat modelling, and mapping in support of land claims, compensation, and community use.
  • rare species surveys and vegetation monitoring on reserves, traditional land use areas, and land claims.
  • scientific and field support for Species At Risk (SAR) Stewardship Fund projects e.g., Lake Sturgeon, Wolverine, Woodland Caribou
  • SAR surveys, mitigation plans and monitoring for development projects e.g., winter roads, community development, resource extraction, cogeneration.
  • community outreach, training, and education
  • peer review of Environmental Assessments and other studies

Clients

Northern Bioscience has worked with First Nations, primarily in Ontario but also in adjacent jurisdictions. We have routinely engaged First Nation community members as field assistants and guides on a number of projects, and have also worked on several projects where First Nations have an equity stake or impact benefit agreements (e.g., Gitchi Animki, Wawatay, Namewaminikan Hydro).
